What's the best hairstyle for a photo shoot.jpg

Best Hairstyle for Pictures

March 19, 2018 in Laura Farr Photography

Ok, if you're a mom you know that you spend most of the morning getting your kiddos ready for pictures, but what about you?

You deserve to look beautiful and a great way to do that is with the perfect hairstyle for pictures. The best hairstyle for pictures will depend a lot on what kind of photo session you are having and the look you are going for.

Whether you are having a family session on the beach, newborn session in your home or some pictures in the city, there are a few different styles that work best so you're not fussing with it during the shoot and you can look your best...along with your adorable children of course.

Obviously you want it to keep it simple and do you. Okay maybe not you at 6am, but more like on the days you shower and put a little blush on..yeah, that you.

Hairstyle for Photo Session at the Beach

I highly recommend putting it half up for this session.

If you have long hair you can pin the top half back. This is one of my favorite examples of one of my clients. It's still down, but it was up enough that it didn't get in the way, which was great because the beach usually has a breeze.

If you're hair is a little shorter like mine is right now you can just braid or twist the sides a little and clip or bobby pin it.

Hairstyle for Newborn Photo Session

If you can, I suggest treating yourself to your favorite hairstyle for this session. It will probably be the last thing on your mind, but you just had a baby and you deserve to feel beautiful! If you have a local dry bar you can quickly go to, I highly suggest that.

One of my favorite hairstyles for a newborn session was this client. She put her hair in a very pretty ballerina bun and it was so pretty! This is a great option for newborn pics, because you are always bending your head down to see your cute baby quite a bit so if it's up you won't have to constantly be moving it.

If your hair isn't quite long enough for a bun or you want it down than maybe it's similar to the beach session and you just pull back a little of the front or sides so it's out of the way.

Hairstyle for Family Photo Session in the City or Park

So for this session basically any hairstyle will work great.  You just want to decide on the look you are going for. I recommend doing your favorite hairstyle, the one that makes you feel beautiful and well, like you. Maybe that means a quick blow out, a natural wave or even a pretty ponytail.

With having cancer, moving, having a baby and being in the middle of a pandemic, I took a break from photography and focused my attention on something I could easily do from home. My good friend Kristin and I started a podcast that turned into a lovely small business helping creative, intentional women make more time for what they love!

What I've Learned, Cancer

In 2016 I was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer called Lymphoma. The next 5 months of chemotherapy would be some of the hardest physically and mentally I've had to go through, but like any trial there were lessons to be learned. Below I share just a few lessons I learned going through cancer.
